William Singer’s Cruel & Unusual Alimony Imprisonment – 1957, New York


FULL TEXT: William Singer bids goodby to jail in New York after serving 16 months for failing to pay full alimony to ex-wife Anna 47, State Supreme Court Justice Owen McGiven ruled that “his incarceration has now passed into the cruel and inhuman stage.” Singer was ordered to begin paying $12 a week plus another $4 on arrearage of $1,400.
